Speeding and Piegons
It’s after a gap of 4 months that I sit to take up my pen (keyboard in this case) to pen in a few words….
Dubai witnessed a longer winter this time and it was quite a relief for many a people in the city of gold, who signed relief from the golden rays of the ever blatant sun.
The occasional rains bringing out even wider smiles on otherwise grumpy faces and also increasing the accident rates on the roads of the otherwise dry roads of Dubai!!
Ok, I know that was a sudden deviation, kind of a sadistic approach rather ,but even then, looking at it , maybe they were trying skidding on the wet roads or maybe drifting like inspired by fast and the furious- Dubai Drift! The police are still banging their heads on their discussion tables, on the walls and on the wet roads every now and then, until a face amongst it lights up that says “ idea!” with the bulb grinning above their heads blinking like a little star “ I have got ‘another’ idea to nail the speeding nut heads!”
What is the idea? Another fine of course!! Maybe increase it now from 200 to 500 dhs!! An Oscar again!
But nothing deters the minds of the motorists, they still tear down, rain or no rain, ever determined like the pigeon (feathered devil) that manages to find my car and shit on top of it, wherever I hide it!! And being even smarter, they break the speed as soon as they see the camera standing like a lonely alien on the side of the roads …maybe they indeed are aliens …camouflaged like the ones in MIB. And if they are caught, they make faces to the camera or even show the finger! A bright photo session indeed.
To catch these smarter ones came innovative ideas, different types of cameras, the one that travels on the police car of course innocently clicking photographs of rule breakers, traffic light cameras, pole cameras (the one that innocently looks like another light pole but is a camera clicking away photos ) and guerilla warfare (think -think)!!
But alas… the police are ‘still’ banging their heads! The drifting, wading and somersaulting still continues ….. a colleague of mine who had got into an accident recently was so cool about the whole accident thing as what excited her more was that she might be airlifted by the helicopter!! Whoops! It’s all about looking at the brighter side I guess!!!!
The winter is receding and so are the hopes of the traffic police, but they still do look on to the brighter tomorrow!! And so do me as I still continue my hunt for that darned pigeon!!
